News Release

July 1st, Vancouver BC , -     BC Hydro selects Core Community software to help launch its employee “Walk the Grid” challenge.

With an emphasis on participation and supporting personal physical activity goals, BC Hydro Employee Wellness implemented the Core Community’s online software to set up a challenge for all its employees across the province.  The event turned out to be a great success with over 50 teams participating and nearly 1000 employees across the province wearing pedometers and logging their steps during this four week physical activity challenge. As a collective, BC Hydro Walk the Grid participants travelled over 125,000 km!

“We selected the CoreXL software because of the advanced technology to track steps, various forms of activity and develop customized activity routes using Google maps. Our employees are spread across the province and an online virtual race program allowed everyone to get involved and organize team challenges at the local level” commented Corrina Hill, Wellness Advisor for BC Hydro. “The enthusiasm was so high that we had to add to our initial order of pedometers.  Feedback from participating employees has been very positive: when participants were asked what they liked most about Walk the Grid, they repeatedly reported the “team spirit”, the “camaraderie” and the friendly competition aspects of the event.  Says one employee, “It brought people together and people were actually trying to eat healthier and be more active.”
